Version 1.2, 26th August 2009
These house rules supplement those given in the
1825 rule books. Some of them are interpretations where the rules
are unclear. Some address ambiguities that arise when
combining Units or Kits. Others are minor variants which seem to improve the game or
that give an alternative style of play.
Francis Tresham's view, as reported in Mike
Hutton's 1825 FAQ,
is that players may do as they please just as long as everyone
enjoys themselves. From this point of view, if all players agree,
other interpretations of the rules are just as valid.
In addition to the web version, I provide a
complete document,
suitable for printing.
-
Rule interpretations
- I believe these rules to be correct, or
at least reasonable, interpretations of the 1825 rule books.
Some are interpretations where the rule books are unclear.
In other cases the rule books differ between Units and/or
Kits.
-
Minor variants
- These are minor house variants on the basic rules which I
use regularly.
-
Official rules
for combining units - The modularity of 1825 allows
great flexibility in choosing a combination that suits the number of
players and their experience. It also raises some ambiguities when
combining different units and kits. This section presents
the official rulings on how to combine units and kits.
-
House rules on
combining units - The official rules for combining
units and kits do not cover all
the
ambiguities that arise. Remaining questions concern the amount
of money to use, which additional tiles should be available, and whether
tiles provided with only one unit or kit may be promoted to tiles from
another unit or kit. This section lists my preferred resolutions for
these questions. Some players prefer other choices.
