This photo shows the end
result of using several of my variant kits with Unit 1 and the three
Regional Kits.
-
DB1:
Optional tiles
- A #887 tile has promoted the hexag south-west of London,
as an alternative to the #14 and #15 tiles. A #205
tile has been laid in Oswestry. Elsewhere, #887 and
#888 tiles have been used in lieu of the #87 and #88 that
come with the basic game (the new tiles are value 20 instead
of 10). An extra #38 tile has also been laid.
-
DB2:
SECR Changes
- The hexag to the south-east of London was reserved for the
SECR. It took advantage of this to constrain the
routes available to the LSWR and LBSC, at the cost of slower
tile development for the SECR itself.
-
DB4:
Ferry markers
- In this game we used my older, simple rule
that increases the value of the named ports on
the board by 10. (The more recent version of the rule
requires a company to place a marker in order to get this
bonus).
-
DB6: Extra minor companies -
The MMR developed the South Welsh coast line, which you can
see coming into Cardiff. The SDTR was placed in Devon,
outside the area in the photo.
-
DB8:
Alternative trains for minor companies
- The alternative trains for the
MGNR, TVR, MMR and SDTR encouraged the development of
regional track, aided by my house rule that in phase three,
a company may lay yellow tiles in adjacent hexes. The
addition of Hereford encouraged the Cambrian to develop a
profitable U3 route along the Welsh border.
